Kari Short Bio
Kari Lydersen is a Chicago-based journalist, author and journalism instructor. She worked through 2009 as a staff writer for The Washington Post out of the Midwest bureau and freelances for a range of national and local publications on topics including environmental issues, immigration, labor and Latin America. She wrote regularly for the science page of The Washington Post and has participated in various science and environmental journalism fellowships. She also blogs about labor for In These Times magazine. She teaches journalism at Columbia College in Chicago and to youth in marginalized communities through the organization We the People Media. She is the author of three books, most recently "Revolt on Goose Island: The Chicago Factory Takeover and What it Says About the Economic Crisis" (Melville House, 2009). She also leads mural tours in the Chicago neighborhood of Pilsen, where she lives, and lectures on topics including environmental justice and immigration. She is originally from San Diego, and received a BSJ from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in 1997, where she was also on the swim team. www.karilydersen.com.
